So I am aware that I have not written in a couple of days. Well I simply could not get my computer to work in Phoenix. All and All I am here to tell you about my first grand convention experience.
Wednesday: Woke up at 6 AM and took Amanda to the Airport. Then at 8 the rest of us were off to the airport to head to Phoenix. After a 4 hour flight we finally arrived a little after 1. I was so excited to see DAVINA! Oh how I have missed her. I arrived to convention to see everyone from the office and then all my Delta Gamma sisters. Wednesday night we had an Opening Banquet to start off the weekend. Being in a room with over 600 sisters had an incredible feeling.
Thursday: This morning was the processional. We wore all white and presented all the flags from all 202 chapters. It was so exciting to have 3 new chapters join in on the processional. By next convention we will have even more!! So we sat through the ceremony and then myself and the rest of the interns were introduced. I felt pretty important not going to lie. During the processional the Dorothy Shaw Leadership Award was given out. I was so happy that our very own Kelly Fast received this award. I was so excited for her! Then we took some pictures all in our white dresses and shortly after I went to change. We had lunch and then our first business meeting. During convention we were voting on bylaws, resolutions and having elections! This business meeting was also the first time we were using electronic voting. Then that night we had a dinner and some more awards were giving out.
Friday: More meetings!!! Sitting through these meetings and seeing all the changes for the betterment of Alpha Delta Pi is such an unreal experience. It really gave me a deeper appreciation for Alpha Delta Pi. Well after hours of meeting it was finally time to get ready the "Old Timers" dinner. This was to honor all the Alumnae! There were many individual awards given out and the 10 and 25 years of membership ceremonies. It was such an honor to see how many women have devoted so many years of their lives to Alpha Delta Pi. This was such a fun dinner. We sang the convention song and I loved learning that Mrs. Ablard has been to 19 convention and I cannot remember exactly how many conventions Mrs. Virginia Stafford (the winner of attending the most conventions) has been to. After a long night it was time to hit the hay!
Saturday: I attended two workshops this morning. Healthy vs. Hurting Leadership and Working with your Fraternity/Sorority Advisor. These were both very informative and I learned a lot of skill that I will utilize in my future. We also had a guest speaker give a presentation on the bystander affect! Always remember to step up and do not be the bystander! Then it was time to get ready for the final banquet. I just loved getting dressed in my formal wear and taking lots of pictures!! I was so excited when the Delta Gamma Chapter won the Achievement Award! We are definitely working our way up to get the golden lion!!! After a fun night of seeing 20 of my sisters it really made me miss Arizona and I cannot wait to be back in August.
Sunday: Today was very relaxing, just basically flew on the plane home. There were a ton of Alpha Delta Pi sisters on the plane with us. After a long adventure we got home to the Alarm going off, the power going out and then the Police showed up. But I believe the icing on the cake was when I went to Wendys and only got 8 chick nugs instead of 10.
Oh well. It is back to the life of interning. Sad to say I only have 2 weeks left in the Ponce Palace. This convention blog is not as detailed as I would have hoped, but I hope you enjoy it. I learned a lot over the past fews days and I could not ask for anything else. Being able to see Alpha Delta Pi on a National Level was an incredible experience. I am an Alpha Delta Pi and I will be one until the day I die! Hope you all enjoy these pictures I took from convention! Have a great week!
