HOTD: being able to pay my respects to Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald.. if it was not for you I would
not be the woman I am today. Because of your
creative mind the first secret society for women was created and has inspired more than 16,000 women across the nation. I hope you are proud of what you created and please know I am a proud member of ALPHA DELTA PI :)
Thats right first stop of the day was visiting Rose Hill Cemetery. This is where our founder Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald is buried. She has a plot with her husband that is always decorated for the holidays. It looks so cute with all its little flags and American Patriotism. Hard to believe that our founder was only 16 years old when she founded the Adelphean society. But she lived a long and accomplished life. Considering the times she lives (through the Civil War) she lived to be 94 years old. Well Eugenia I was thrilled to pay my respects to you and am so glad you were brave enough to start this society.
So next stop CANNONBALL House. This is a Confederate Museum. Very Southern thing to do. But why did I go there you might ask... oh yea thats right because there is an Adelphean room. Unfortunately Wesleyan decided to expand (YAYYYY!) and needed to move, so Alpha Delta Pi decided to rent a room and have a museum of Alpha Delta Pi right there in the Homeland of ADPI. Parts of the original room from Wesleyan are there (carpet replica, chandelier, and shutters). I of course saw pictures of our founders, badges and lots of other ADPi artifacts. So then the interns decided to do the very southern thing and take pictures on the porch and as we were standing by the Cannonball. So we probably were there for almost and hour but then my tummy started to grumble :(.
Good thing it was time for lunch. The fabulous Amber (foundation employee) suggested a place called CHEDDARS!!! Yum yum yum my loaded baked potato soup was much needed. Don't worry RoRo the little piggy I am also ate a half a club sandwich and had a caesar salad. So Bonnie our wonderful Archivist shared so many interesting ADPi facts with us during our lunch. She really is great at her job and I want to thank her for taking time out of her day to share her knowledge about ADPi with the interns! After filling our bellies it was time for our next stop on the tour.
WESLEYAN COLLEGE
FIRST TO GRANT DEGREE'S TO WOMEN!
Yup! Thats right I went to WESLEYAN! First I got to sign my name in the book that is for all ADPi's that visit. Our first room we visited had many different ADPi items. Lots of pictures, badges, notes, etc... This room is dedicated to the first women who received a college degree (sorry but I don't remember her name). We then walked around the campus and eventually found ourselves in the gift store. I knew I wanted to buy something but honestly did not know what. There was a really cute shirt that said "Pilgrimage to Sisterhood" but I think I made the better decision. KNEE HIGH SOCKS! These will totally come in handy. We then took several pictures one again on the porch, but that ended when we got to the best part of the tour. So we walked and saw the sign that is dedicated to Alpha Delta Pi and is above Phi Mu (sorry we are higher, but we are first). And then we overlooked the balcony and there is it was THE FOUNTAIN! Oh how I have seen this is so many pictures. Of course we made our way down to the fountain and took LOTS of pictures. This fountain also has a new addition LIONS! The founders names are also on the steps. Trust me this was a once in a life time experience. So as we continued our tour we learned many facts about Wesleyan. Did you know they only have 750 undergraduate students and it is still an all female school!? Probs not but I am glad I was able to give you those educational facts. We then walked and saw the bench was was dedicated to Alpha Delta Pi. All the founders and members of the first Alpha Class names are on it. Once again more pictures were taking. Well this was the end of our tour with Mrs. Tina. She did such a wonderful job and I thank her so much for sharing stories with us. Then as we were leaving Bonnie pointed out the plaque on the gates to Wesleyan. These were donated on Alpha Delta Pi's 150th anniversary.
Well unfortunately the day came to a close and it was time to leave Macon. This was honestly the best day I could have asked for. The weather was perfect and who doesn't want to learn about ADPi? This trip was so inspiring and once I will always remember. I really think ADPi needs to make a Macon trip similar to the Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) in the sense that it is a MUST on your to do list before you die. All ADPi's if you could make your way to Macon you will not regret this trip.
So that basically sums up my day except for my many skype dates and doing some of my sweetheart duties. As you can see today was so perfect and one I will remember forever. Please enjoy these pictures so you can get a real vibe at what I was doing. Have a happy and safe 4th weekend.
TTFN!
